My family has had a long history of involvement with the Framework Knitters’ Company. I was born into the tradition in Leicester last century – a lady never tells exactly when! Before settling near Huddersfield in Yorkshire I was educated in Staffordshire and studied engineering at Sheffield. I worked in engineering before marrying and raising a family. Sadly my husband Allen died in 2013 but, more happily, knowing that both our boys had places at university. Andrew went to Oxford and Chris to Chicago, USA. Both now work in the tech industry.

I joined the Framework Knitters in 2002 when my father was Master and came onto the Court in 2009. My brother, uncles, cousin and grandfather have all also been Master.

I am very active in my local community and in particular have been on the committee of Honley Agricultural show for the last 25 years. I have held various posts and am currently Chair. It is very rewarding to see so many people enjoying a great day out in the sunshine in June, learning about our farming traditions while having fun.

I have played tennis and enjoy watching most sports especially rugby. It has been exciting to see Huddersfield Town Football Club rise through the divisions to finally make it to the Premiership.

While my two sons are carving out their careers London and Boston, USA, Allen’s eldest son lives close to me in the Holme Valley with his partner and their three children. I still help out at the Toddler Group where my children and step-grandchildren have all been through the doors.

Many thanks to my friend Duncan King who is acting as my consort for the year.
